Trilateral Youth Empowerment | Program on Workforce Reentry
About the Series
Upon its creation, the Mansfield Foundation intentionally put Maureen’s name before Mike’s because of our strong belief in equality and women’s empowerment, and to highlight the important but often-unrecognized women have played in domestic and international policy. Maureen Mansfield was a teacher and fostered the political career of her husband, longtime Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield. Maureen’s role in Mike Mansfield’s career was crucial, and he often introduced her as his mentor and guiding force.
In 2021, the Foundation launched the Maureen Mansfield Women’s Empowerment Series to provide innovative programs in this space. The first program, a track-1.5 trilateral dialogue among women from Japan, South Korea, and the United States, focused on women’s employment in the three countries as we cooperate in pursuit of the shared goal of promoting workforce reentry for women amid the COVID shocks.
In 2023, the Series was expanded to include a program on trilateral youth empowerment.
In addition to a rotating group of dialogues and programs, the Mansfield Foundation conducts roundtables and Capitol Hill Asia Policy events highlighting gender issues in the United States and Asia.
