東京事務所ディレクター 倉本照代から退職のご挨拶
マンスフィールド財団をご支援いただいている皆さまへ
2025年6月27日
モーリーン・アンド・マイク・マンスフィールド財団（MMMF）での28年半にわたる充実した年月を経て、私は2025年6月30日をもって東京事務ディレクターを退任し、そのバトンを日米交流分野で今後の活躍が期待される森守弥子氏に託すこととなりました。森氏が東京におけるこの重要な組織の舵を取ってくださることを大変心強く、嬉しく思っています。皆さまには、私がこれまで頂いてきたのと同様のご支援を、どうか森氏にもお寄せいただければ幸いです。
1997年、当時のマンフィールド太平洋問題研究所（MCPA）に入職したとき、私は10年以上在職するとは予想もしておりませんでした。2003年に現財団名へと改称されて以降も、ワシントンDC、モンタナ、東京の素晴らしいチームと共にマンスフィールド・フェローシップを主導し、他のプログラムを通じて日米協力を推進するという貴重な機会に、心を強く惹かれました。
今でも忘れられないのは、1996年にMCPAが主催したホテルオークラでの歓迎レセプションで、第1期マンスフィールド・フェローと本プログラムの創設者である林芳正先生に初めてお会いした時です。
今日では、マンスフィールド・フェローシップは日米間の政府リーダーシップ交流の模範的なプログラムとなり、マンスフィールド財団は草の根レベルでの日米関係を支える中核的な組織へと成長しました。
私自身、この職務を通じて、財団の成功が理事会のリーダーシップ、ご支援くださる方々、実施機関、プログラム参加者、そしてスタッフ一人ひとりの献身と貢献によって成り立っていることを何度も実感しました。
マンスフィールド大使とモーリーン大使夫人、米国政府、日本政府、ジェラルド・カーティス会長率いる理事会、フランク・ジャヌージー理事長率いる運営チーム、同僚の皆さん、ご支援くださったすべての方々に心から感謝申し上げます。そして、マンスフィールド・フェロー、同窓生の皆さま、この財団に関わってくださったすべての方々にも、深い感謝の意を表します。
私の心は、今後も誇りと愛着をもってマンスフィールド財団とともにあります。

After 28.5 extraordinary fulfilling years at the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation (MMMF), I am stepping down as Tokyo Director on June 30, 2025 and handing the baton to Ms. Sumiko Mori, a rising star in the U.S.-Japan exchange field. I am gratified and excited that Ms. Mori will take the lead of this important organization in Tokyo. I would appreciate your support for her success, as I appreciated your support for me.
When I joined the Mansfield Center for Pacific Affairs (MCPA) in 1997 which was renamed the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation in 2003, I never intended to stay longer than one decade. But the opportunity to join the great team in DC, Montana and Tokyo to lead the Mike Mansfield Fellowship and advance U.S.-Japan cooperation through other programs during a series of ups and downs proved to be too compelling.
I still remember the 1st encounter of the 1st group of the Mansfield Fellows and Honorable Mr. Yoshimasa Hayashi, the founder of the Mansfield Fellowship at 1996 welcome reception at the Hotel Okura hosted by MCPA.
Today, Mansfield Fellowship has become the exemplar U.S.-Japan government leadership exchange, and the Mansfield Foundation has become the premier organization supporting U.S.-Japan relations at the people-to-people level.
Through the privilege of my position, I have seen how success has been possible through the commitment and contributions of Board leadership, funders, implementing partners, program participants and staff.
I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Maureen and Ambassador Mansfield, the U.S. government, Government of Japan, MMMF Board led by Chairman Gerald Curtis, the management team led by President Frank Januzzi, my colleagues, and sponsors. My gratitude also extends to the Mansfield Fellows, alumni and everyone in the Mansfield community. My heart stays connected with MMMF with deep pride and loyalty.
