The Mansfield Foundation hosted a Capitol Hill Asia Policy Dialogue on the topic of “The Future of U.S.-Japan Trade.” on Tuesday, August 7th. Mireya Solis, Director at Center for East Asia Policy Studies, Brookings Institution presented on Japan’s new leadership role in international trade, and opportunities and challenges for the U.S.- Japan trade and economic relationship. More specifically, she examined TPP-11, Japan-EU free trade agreement, geopolitical factors, and issues that might be discussed at the upcoming bilateral trade talks. John Fei, Senior Fellow at the Mansfield Foundation, contributed his insights as moderator. Dr. Fei highlighted Japan’s importance as one of the top U.S. trade partners and how the two countries’ relations with China may affect the U.S.-Japan relations going forward.
