While many know Mike Mansfield as the longest-serving U.S. ambassador to Japan and as an authority on U.S.-Asia relations during his years in Congress, not as many know of his interest in Korea. He demonstrated this interest early in his career, when he wrote his master’s thesis on “American Diplomatic Relations with Korea [1866-1910].” Mike Mansfield earned his master’s degree in history and political science from Montana State University (now the University of Montana) in 1934.
In the summer of 2016, Mansfield Foundation Program Assistant Intern Eyob Moges, a political science/economics major at Indiana University, reviewed and summarized Mike Mansfield’s master’s thesis. Please click here to read Mr. Moges’ summary and here to read the full thesis.
