Connecting People & Ideas to Advance Mutual Interests in U.S.-Asia Relations

On July 20, 2023, the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation, in conjunction with Fulbright University Vietnam, convened “Greener Together: Key Prerequisites for Energy Transition in Vietnam.”

This public conference in Ho Chi Minh City gathered energy and climate experts from across the world to discuss multilateral efforts to assist Vietnam in meeting its ambitious energy transition goals. Secretary John Kerry, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy on Climate, provided remarks via video, and the conference was honored to welcome the Consuls General from the United States, Japan, and China. Other speakers included local and regional experts on energy and climate, including visitors from Australia, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

The conference was part of the ongoing Mansfield-CIIS Forum on Northeast Asia Cooperation, a core group of opinion leaders and experts from the United States, Japan, and China which meets regularly to discuss issues of energy and the environment. After the public event, the forum continued via workshops and local site visits as our three countries explore ways to identify common interests in promoting a just energy transition in Vietnam and across Southeast Asia.

A report from the Forum on trilateral cooperation in Southeast Asia will be published by the Mansfield Foundation in the coming months.

The Mansfield-CIIS Forum on Northeast Asia Cooperation and the Greener Together Conference were made possible with support from the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
