Connecting People & Ideas to Advance Mutual Interests in U.S.-Asia Relations

On Wednesday, February 23, the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation was honored to host the fourth virtual meeting of the Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission Thomas S. Foley Legislative Exchange. The session welcomed legislators from the U.S. House of Representatives, Japan’s National Diet, and the Republic of Korea’s National Assembly. Despite the virtual setting, delegation members were able to speak candidly with each other, discussing key issues in the trilateral relationship including the ongoing pandemic and security concerns impacting the three countries.

The Japanese Diet Delegation comprised of co-chairs Ms. Kuniko Inoguchi (LDP, Upper House) and Mr. Masaharu Nakagawa (CDP, Lower House), Mr. Keitaro Ohno (LDP, Lower House), and Mr. Shuhei Kishimoto (DPP, Lower House).

Participants from the Republic of Korea’s National Assembly included co-chairs Mr. Chang-hyun Yun (People Power Party) and Mr. Kee Won Hong (Democratic Party of Korea), and Ms. Sunwoo Kang (Democratic Party of Korea).

The Congressional Delegation was led by co-leaders Mr. Mark Takano (D-CA) and Mr. French Hill (R-AR) and included Ms. Nancy Mace (R-SC) and Mr. Ed Case (D-HI).

The Mansfield Foundation looks forward to hosting future trilateral discussions, both virtually and in-person, between the United States, Japan, and Republic of Korea.
