The Honorable Yoshimasa Hayashi’s (LDP Member, House of Councillors) support for the Mansfield Fellowship Program began in 1992 while he was serving as an intern in the office of former Senator William Roth and helped draft legislation that would become the Mike Mansfield Fellowship Program Act. In recent years his office has welcomed several Mansfield Fellows as interns. Councillor Hayashi kindly mentioned his role in creating the Mansfield Fellowship Program and its role in furthering the U.S.-Japan relationship in April 26, 2012 remarks at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
