On May 1, 2020, the Mansfield Foundation hosted its first virtual Capitol Hill Asia Policy Dialogue event. Members of the legislative and wider U.S.-Asia policy community logged in for a panel discussion about the ongoing cost-sharing negotiations between South Korea and the United States. Foundation President & CEO Frank Jannuzi was joined by U.S.-Japan Network for the Future expert, Ms. Emma Chanlett-Avery (Asian Affairs Specialist, Congressional Research Service) and Mr. Abraham Denmark (Director, Woodrow Wilson Center) to explore how the recent South Korean elections could impact the negotiating process, and what lessons Japan might draw from the proceedings as they look toward their own negotiations with the U.S. in 2021.
