Jun Aketa is a business executive who currently serves as Senior Advisor to Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Special Advisor to TMI Associates, among other firms. He is an expert in the development of infrastructure projects related to the oil, gas, power generation, and water sectors, as well as strategic planning of human resource development and business development in the Asia Pacific region. His field work has included the global aviation business and leasing of locomotives and freight transport in Europe, Russia, and the United States. He is a regular lecturer and advisor to Japanese clients on geopolitics and U.S. politics.
Mr. Aketa joined Mitsui & Co., Ltd. in 1984 and has held roles across various divisions, including the Aerospace Systems and Rail Leasing Division and Asia Pacific Business Unit, most recently as Principal Executive advisor to Mitsui’s Global Strategic Studies Institute. He previously served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mitsui & Co. (U.S.A.) Ltd. in their Washington, DC office.
He has also served as President of the Japanese Association in Singapore, Councilor of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Singapore, Director of the Japan Commerce Association of Washington, D.C., Trustee of the Japan-America Society of Washington, Co-chair of the Congressional Study Group on Japan’s Business Advisory Council, and Chairman of multiple committees within the Mitsui Inter-business Research Institute. Mr. Aketa holds a B.A. in Social Science from Hitotsubashi University.
