Sachiko Kuno

Sachiko Kuno currently is president and CEO of the S&R Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 2000 to support talented individuals in the arts and sciences, especially those who are furthering international cultural collaboration.  Dr. Kuno is co-founder and former president of R-Tech Ueno, Ltd., a pharmaceutical venture business based in Tokyo, and co-founder and founding CEO of Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a global pharmaceutical company based in Bethesda, Maryland.  She also is a co-founder and managing member of S&R Technology Holdings, LLC, which provides support to global entrepreneurs and new businesses.  Dr. Kuno serves on the boards of the Japan Commerce Association of Washington, D.C., and the National Cherry Blossom Festival and is an advisory board member of THIS for Diplomats at Meridian International Center.

Dr. Kuno earned her PhD in biochemical engineering from Kyoto University and conducted post-doctoral research at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. She spent her early research career at Mitsubishi Institute for Life Sciences and the non-profit research organization ERATO (Exploratory Research for Advanced Technology).
