The 2002 Retreat, Melting Mountains: Climate
Change in the Asia Pacific Region, took place
June 26-29 in the Glacier National Park region
of Montana. This fifth Mansfield Pacific Retreat
convened 65 scientists, policy makers, business
leaders, scholars and government officials from
Japan, South Korea, China and the United States
for four days of candid, open discussions focused
on climate change in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Retreat was organized by The
Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center at the University
of Montana (Missoula) and the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation (Washington, D.C.).

on Saturday evening with a banquet and invitation
from Mr. Chang-Hyung Ko, Deputy Mayor, Seogwipo
City, Jeju Island, Korea, who invited the participants
to the Sixth Mansfield Pacific Retreat, to take
place in Jeju Island in May 2003.
