Chie Igarashi was appointed Program Associate in February 2002. Her responsibilities include providing logistical support to Mansfield Fellows and their families, serving as a liaison between Japanese government agencies and the Mansfield Foundation, translating correspondence and documents from English into Japanese and vice versa, and arranging monthly seminars (kenkyukai) for Mansfield Fellows. She also supports the Foundation's Tokyo office operations and other programs.
Prior to joining the Mansfield Foundation, Ms. Igarashi was executive administrative assistant at the Asia Society's Washington Center, where she supported general program management. She also worked as an intern at the Center for Strategic and International Studies' Asia Program and as a research assistant for Professor Quangshen Zhao at American University. As a research assistant, Ms. Igarashi did extensive research on Sino-Japanese relations.
Ms. Igarashi holds a B.A. with honors in International Studies from the Kyoritsu Women's University in Japan and an M.A. in Comparative and Regional Studies in Asia from American University in Washington, D.C. She speaks English, Japanese and Chinese.
